SpringWar V
The Invasion of Numenor
For years the High Men of Numenor had kept
a watchful eye on the northern barbarians of the Wolfpack. Although
the Numenorian's only invasion of the High Plains years ago had failed, Numenor
had no trouble repelling the barbarian's raids, and there had been none for
years.
But the Age of High Men was passing. There
were fewer Numenorians each year, while the warriors of the High Plains grew
with each passing season. Now only a few Knights of Numenor remained
to protect the lands, and the northern barbarians cast a greedy eye on the
treasures of the Edhellen Armory...
Sudden and unexpected, the invasion was
caught the Numenorians off guard. The warriors of the High Plains marched
unopposed into the realm, while the High Men of Numenor urgently called for
their allies to rally to Numenors defense. Hastily assembled,
the defenders rushed to block the Wolfpacks advance. The two armies
gathered for the first great battle at a field outside the village of Mansfield
During Saturday of SpringWar V (April 10-13) the armies of Wolfpack will invade the lands
of Numenor. A series of different battles will determine how much territory
is won or lost. If one army captures their enemy's castle, they have conquered
that realm.
The Armies
- Each realm (Wolfpack and Numenor) will try to recruit as many units and
realms to fight for them as they can.
- Realms, units, and individuals who don't care are considered neutral mercenaries.
Mercenaries are automatically recrutied by the realm with the smaller forces (to help balance
the sides).
- Realms, units, and individuals can not switch sides during the war.
- For clarity in battle, each soldier will wear a colored sash: red for Wolfpack, blue for Numenor.
- Each side chooses a General to direct the battles and decide if their
army attacks, retreats, surrenders, or sues for peace.
The War
- The war is fought out across a map of the two realms
in a series of battles for strategic locations:
| High
Plains   |

Numenor |
|
| Siege
of Castle McCormick |
|
Battle
for Moraine Woods |
|
Battle
of Salt Bridge |
|
Battle
of Mansfield |
|
Battle
of Sangamon Bridge |
|
Battle
for Allerton Forest |
|
Siege
of Edhellen Castle |
|
- Each location is a different type of battle terrain:
- The Battle of Mansfield is the first clash between Wolfpack and
Numenor. Whichever army wins moves on to the next battle stage deeper
in enemy territory.
- If the defenders stop their enemy's advance (by winning a battle), they
may counterattack, fighting through the stages toward their enemy's
castle, or make peace and end the war.
- If the counterattack is halted (by the counterattackers loosing a
battle), a stalemate is declared.
Victory!
- The first side to conquer their enemy's castle wins.
- After any battle, the defender's General can surrender, or the invader's
General can retreat, instantly ending the war.
- If a counterattack fails, or neither side has siezed the other's castle
by 5:00 pm, the war ends in a stalemate. Each realm keeps the
territory they've conquered, but neither side has the strength to win a complete
victory.
Battle Terrains
For the sake of game balance, the head herald reserves the right to assign bonuses
or penalties to either army, or alter the details of any battle.
Field Battles (Mansfield)
- Three Ordinary field battles will be fought.
- Whoever wins the best of three battles is the victor.
Bridge Battles (Salt Bridge & Sangamon Bridge)
- Three bridge battles will be fought.
- Whoever wins the best of three battles is the victor.
- Swimming:
- The "river" will be marked with rope.
- Anyone in armor or carrying a shield who falls into the river is dead.
- Unarmored, unshielded warriors can "swim" the river by crawling
on all fours across the area.
- Swimmers may carry one one-handed weapon, provided they hold it in their
teeth or "out of the water" with one hand at all times.
- Swimmers my not fight each other in the water, or else they are considered
carried away by the current and out of the battle.
- If a swimmer stops moving, they are consideed carried away by the current
and out of the battle.
Woods Battles (Moraine Woods & Allerton Forest)
- Only one woods battle will be fought.
- This is a one-hour timed resurection battle.
- Each side gets 1/2 hour to build a fort in the woods out of hay bales at
opposite ends of the designated fighting area.
- When someone dies, they must walk back to a designated regeneration
point for their army and sign their name on a list. When four or more people
are at the resurection point, they may return to the battle ("reinforcements").
- Victory
- The first side to occupy both forts (defined as no living enemies inside)
and hold both for five minutes wins.
- If neither side has won after an hour, the regeneration points close.
- If there is still not a clear victor at the end of the battle, whichever
side has killed the most enemies wins.
Castle Battles (Castle McCormick & Edhellen Castle)
- Three castle battles will be fought.
- Whoever wins the best of three battles is the victor.
- Castles have two doors.
- Archers can only fire through the "doorway" areas, NOT through
walls.
